All AP business units, products and services will be united for the first time under a single logo.  The new look will be rolled out in stages throughout the next year, with first appearances in March on the first phase of a new AP.org website.  Within 18 months, all AP division including Global Media Services and ENPS will be rebranded. Member Innovation: The Evansville Courier & Press in Evansville, IN

Members continue to find ways to use content from AP to create new revenue streams.  The Evansville Courier & Press in Evansville, IN is a prime example.  The paper has created an elections section, using AP’s election package that enables readers to take a deep dive into the issues and data that matter most to them.  They focused on in-depth reporting on local issues, as well as state government and politics.  The section was so successful, that in the 2008 presidential primary, celebrants at candidate’s election-night gatherings in Indianapolis were projecting pages from courierpress.com onto display screens because the site had the most current and frequently updated results, which further built the paper’s brand. The paper produced a weekly agriculture section to feature … [Read More...]

AP Got the Story: Sarah Palin’s Alaska Emails

The Associated Press is committed to the people’s right to know around the world.  AP has a long history of involvement in issues about freedom of information, free press and media access. Recently, this was exemplified with a story regarding access to Sarah Palin’s email while governor of Alaska. Previously, after a three-year effort, the AP and other news organizations obtained official emails from all but the final 10 months of Sarah Palin’s term as Alaska governor. However, Juneau correspondent Becky Bohrer and West Interactive Editor Dan Kempton worked to obtain the missing 10 months, and due to their effort, Bohrer was the first to obtain the DVD of more than 34,000 documents. After complaints from some national organizations that Alaska did not inform them of the release, … [Read More...]
